Thank you again to all of you for being so understanding regarding our difficult decision to close during the recent extreme weather. As you can see from photographs taken by Mrs McCready the snow hit Much Birch School pretty badly!
I personally spent many hours at school on Sunday trying to get the heating working, organising for the repair of the phone lines as well as spending time trying to clear some of the snow which, as you can see from the photograph, was very deep in places.
On Monday we had a great turn out of staff, governors and parents to help clear pathways and the areas surrounding school to make it safe for children and staff to return on Tuesday. Mrs Tweddell also worked tirelessly on Monday to ensure the phone line was fixed and that parents and carers were kept updated with information regarding school opening.
Thank you so much for your cooperation with the staggered start and finish times this week whilst parking on the road has not been possible. We have had many positive responses regarding the ‘kiss and drop’ system we used this week and would welcome your views on how you would find this as a more permanent set up for morning drop off. If this was something that the school adopted, it would, however, require parent volunteers to act as chaperones and to help direct traffic as it would be impossible to maintain the number of staff carrying out these duties on a daily basis. If everyone dropped off in this way in the morning it could be a very positive solution to all the congestion and parents having to park so far up the hill each morning.
